Chiura Obata, a well-known Japanese American artist, founded the Fuji Athletic Club, the first mainland Issei baseball team. Born in Okayama, Obata moved to the United States to study art and fell in love with baseball. He passed his enthusiasm on to his son, Gyo, who later helped design several American ballparks, including the iconic Camden Yards, where the Baltimore Orioles still play today.
