First published in 1878 by Albert G. Spalding – a baseball player, manager, and entrepreneur who founded an eponymous sporting goods company – Spalding’s Official Baseball Guide was an instructional handbook providing rules that helped standardize the sport. Modeled after Spalding’s guide, Yakyu Nenpo was published in 1902 and established the same baseball regulations in Japan.
