Meridian Global Business Briefing with H.E. Esteban Moctezuma, Ambassador of Mexico to the United States

Ambassador Esteban Moctezuma of Mexico delivers remarks at a Meridian Global Business Briefing.

On June 23, 2022, the Meridian Corporate Council partnered with Visa to host H.E. Esteban Moctezuma, Ambassador of Mexico to the United States, for a discussion on ‘U.S.-Mexico Economic and Trade Relations.’ The conversation was moderated by Ambassador Stuart Holliday, CEO of Meridian International Center.

In February of 2021, Ambassador Moctezuma’s nomination to serve as the Ambassador of Mexico to the United States was ratified by the Mexican Senate with 115 of 116 votes in favor Prior to serving as ambassador, he served in multiple other civil service capacities, most recently serving as the Secretary of Public Education from 2018 until his current appointment.

Ambassador Moctezuma discussed the importance of the U.S. and Mexico’s relationship. He noted that for many years the two countries relationship was somewhat “distant” and going forward the two must enact a regional approach to combat pressing issues like food security and migration. Ambassador Moctezuma emphasized the economic importance of the relationship and ensured that President López Obrador’s actions against the private sector were aimed at corruption not private investment. Mexico foresees this collaborative relationship being facilitated through strong and integrated energy, trade, and agriculture industries. In short, the future of Mexico is with the United States and the future of the United States is with Mexico.
