The project engaged 12 legal professionals and allied human rights defenders and informed them about international advocacy tools through UN mechanisms. The participants took part in a 3-day training about the legal mechanisms and tools of the work of the UN treaty bodies, and also focused on transgender issues and the legal terminology and strategies for supporting the transgender community, including the appropriate language to refer to people from the trans and gender-nonconforming communities. Moving forward, Nodir plans to continue developing connections across sectors to promote the civil and human rights of the trans community. After the completion of his IVLP Impact Award project, he would like to expand the movement to involve journalists and doctors alongside lawyers in the cause.
Nodir was a participant in the IVLP Project Human and Civil Rights for Marginalized Communities II, organized by the U.S. Department of State and Meridian International Center.
Nodir's exchange experience led to the development of his IVLP Impact Award Project: "I was very inspired by the context of the United States when Black Americans fought for their own rights and struggled for life, justice, and equality."
