Outward Bound: American Art at the Brink of the Twenty-First Century

Meridian presented this exhibition in Washington, D.C., and Southeast Asia to examine the state of the visual arts in the United States as the millennium dawned. This exhibition was meant to share a cross-section of what American artists were saying and doing at that moment, and to reflect the vastness and variety that is the United States. Prior to this exhibition, the Meridian arts program primarily dealt with the organization of exhibitions from abroad for circulation across the United States. Outward Bound provided the first opportunity to travel the other way. Meridian is grateful to the lenders and the participating artists who were eager and willing to share their work with the world. In making this shift, Meridian sought to contribute to the larger goal of greater global harmony in the twenty-first century.

This exhibition was made possible with support from Mobil.
