U.S. Speaker and Specialist Program for Brazil

Program Description

The U.S. Speaker and Specialist Program for Brazil sponsored by the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Brasilia is jointly implemented since 2016 with Meridian International Center. The program was designed to connect U.S. experts with Brazilian audiences and institutions through virtual and in-person exchanges; to promote a better understanding of U.S. strategic priorities, policies and institutions; and to build linkages between experts and institutions in the U.S. and Brazil. The program offers an opportunity for some of the participating U.S experts to travel individually to the country for a 10 day to three-week long professional program designed by the U.S embassy in Brasilia and the other U.S. Consulates in Brazil. Participating experts engage with a variety of professional audiences at a wide range of Brazilian institutions through webinars and in-person lectures, workshops, and seminars, through roundtables and panel discussions, and through one-on-one meetings with their Brazilian counterparts. A key component of the visit is engagement with both local and national media as well as Brazilian social media representatives to further the message of their program.

Over the past four years, Meridian has sent over 30 American experts to Brazil who have addressed a multitude of topics from oceans/marine protection to women’s empowerment, from biomathematics to film festivals, and from startups to U.S. foreign policy.
