Journalist Foreign Policy Tour: A Program for the U.S. Embassy in Germany

Sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in Berlin  and administered by Meridian International Center, the Foreign Policy Tour program brought six German journalists from regional print and broadcast media affiliates to interact with their American counterparts and learn about timely foreign policy issues. The program focused on global foreign policy challenges of the 21st century and how the U.S. government is tackling these challenges in partnership with other nations. The tour also included a discussion of trends in reporting on foreign policy in the U.S., and the participants were exposed to U.S. political institutions and structures at the federal and local level.

Specific goals and objectives included:

  • Exploring how the U.S. is leading in coalitions to address global challenges, particularly in the Middle East;
  • Learning about the U.S. – Ukraine relationship;
  • Discussing the 2016 electoral landscape;
  • Exploring foreign policy topics that are important for U.S. media outlets and how these are reported in the digital age.
