EU-US 2022 Priorities with Sabine Weyand, European Commission’s Director-General of Trade

On February, 16, 2022, the Meridian Corporate Council partnered with Amgen to host a Global Business Briefing with Director-General of Trade for the European Commission, Ms. Sabine Weyand. The discussion, moderated by Meridian’s Board of Trustee member, The Honorable Fred Hochberg, covered key developments in EU-US trade relations. The main elements revolved around the transatlantic trade agenda priorities that will drive EU-US relations going forward, such as rebuilding EU-US trust, and multilateral approaches to the many geostrategic challenges shared on both sides of the Atlantic.   

Sabine Weyand is a German EU senior official. She has played a prominent role in trade negotiations, as an EU co-negotiator for the TTIP and CETA agreements, and in EU Brexit negotiations. Since June 1, 2019, Weyand has been the EU Director-General for Trade. In this capacity, she develops and puts into practice EU trade and investment policy along with the EU's Trade Commissioner. Prior to her current role, Weyand served as Deputy Director-General of the Directorate-General for Trade, responsible for Units E (Neighborhoods, USA, and Canada), F (WTO, Legal Affairs and Trade), G (Trade Strategy and Analysis, Market Access) and H (Trade Defense Instruments). Weyand has worked for the European Commission since 1994. Her first position was in the Directorate-General for Industry, where she worked with the automotive industry outside Europe
