Ancient Threads Newly Woven: Recent art from China’s Silk Road

Meridian International Center partnered with China International Exhibition Agency in Beijing to present Ancient Threads, Newly Woven: Recent Art from China's Silk Road. The exhibition featured 78 artworks by 65 contemporary artists from China's western region and highlighted the multicultural aspect of the Silk Road. Exhibition artists came from famous cities along the Silk Road—Xi’an, Lanzhou, Dunhuang, Ürümqi, and Kashgar. A group of Chinese and American curators and experts collected works on several trips to China.

Ancient Threads was part of a U.S.-China cultural exchange that also included Out West: The Great American Landscape, an exhibition depicting the American West. The exhibition was made possible by the Chinese Ministry of Culture, Anheuser-Busch Foundation, FedEx Corporation, the Coca-Cola Company, Scientific-Atlanta, and the Embassy of the People's Republic of China.
