Meridian was delighted to cohost a salon dinner with members of the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt and special guests on the evening on June 25, 2014. The Egyptian delegation included members of the financial, ICT/telecommunications, energy, oil and gas, agriculture, and manufacturing sectors, among others, and was the first official visit by AmCham and business delegates following Egypt’s Presidential Elections in late May. Ambassador Stuart Holliday, Meridian’s President and CEO, and The Honorable Christopher Burnham, Chairman and CEO of Cambridge Global Capital, LLC and Meridian Trustee co-chaired the dinner, focused on strengthening U.S.-Egypt relations.

As part of the evening’s discussion, The Honorable Anne W. Patterson, Assistant Secretary of the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs at the State Department, shared insights on Secretary of State Kerry’s recent visit to Cairo. His Excellency Mohamed Al-Hussaini Al Sharif, Ambassador of the League of Arab States, and His Excellency Mohamed Tawfik, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the U.S., along with other notable guests, contributed to the conversation on moving Egypt forward.

The AmCham delegation was visiting the U.S. to highlight the progress the private sector has made in moving Egypt forward and its optimism for economic recovery and stability under the new president. As part of the #Egypt4Business campaign, AmCham and its members, who bring an on-the-ground perspective, visited Washington to show their commitment to strengthening relations with the U.S. AmCham. Egypt is one of the largest and most active overseas affiliates of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, connecting more than 1800 business leaders representing U.S. companies operating in Egypt, Egyptian companies engaged in trade, commerce and investment with the U.S. and multinational companies doing business in Egypt.
