IVLP Impact Award Project: Keep Calm and Verify the Information

The project raised the media literacy rates of Ukrainian youth and supported resistance to disinformation. The project impacted high-school and university students, teachers, representatives of NGO and elderly people by teaching them to verify information, share their skill among their network, and involve them in a series of actions aimed at popularizing media literacy in Ukraine and abroad.

Project activities included the creation of groups in Facebook and Telegram on debunking disinformation; a series of online webinars for several target groups on working with information (algorithms of social media, how to verify the information, recognizing fakes, principles of information hygiene), and a three-day off-line training for university and college students. The social media groups helped resist the spreading of propaganda, fakes and disinformation by low quality mass media, stop information and psychological special operations, and defend the community on the information front. Online seminars provided useful exercises that targeted different target groups based on the information sources they might utilize to uncover the dangers of information overload, misinformation, and intoxication.

The project had a significant impact on enhancing media literacy, as evidenced by the participation of more than 297 people in webinars and offline training sessions, exceeding the initial target. Participants reported a positive change in their awareness and perception of information on the internet, including ways of verifying information, resisting manipulation, and avoiding hate speech.

Tetiana was also a panelist for the IVLP Impact Awards Alumni Discussion Series panel on “Community Support for Ukraine” which you can read more about here.
