Solvita Sadovska holds a bachelor's degree in Latvian philology and works as an English teacher in a special needs school with children from first to ninth grade. Solvita has over seven years of experience in education. She also graduated from Daugavpils University with a master's degree in intercultural relations. Solvita actively participates in the youth organization "Dagne." 

IVLP Impact Award Project: #FAKENEWS Among Us

The goal of the project was to inform the youth from the Kraslava Municipality of Latvia about the fake news in society and to teach them how to evaluate fake news from real news. The project also shared knowledge and contacts gained during the IVLP experience. Therefore, the project aimed to reduce intolerance and to promote a cohesive society by raising young people's awareness of the negative effects of disinformation and hate speech as well as developing their critical thinking and media literacy. 

 These goals were accomplished through 12 educational seminars with around 150 student attendees between 10th and 12th grades. The seminars shared information and fostered discussion about media literacy and fact checking, and were followed up by an online hackathon. Nowadays, many youth spend their spare time using technology and gain lots of information from the media. Media literacy is an essential skill in the digital age.

IVLP Exchange Experience 

Solvita was a participant in the IVLP Project: 21st Century ChangeMakers: Engaging Youth in the Battle Against Disinformation, organized by the U.S. Department of State and CRDF Global.

Solvita's exchange experience led to the development of her IVLP Impact Award Project: "My IVLP experience gave me an understanding of media work and the current use of media platforms."
