Sierra Wilbar

Sierra Wilbar currently serves as a Program Coordinator for the Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative (YLAI) on the GlobalConnect team. Sierra recently completed her Masters’ degree in Race, Ethnicity and Conflict from Trinity College Dublin, the University of Dublin, Ireland where she specialized in indigenous conflict. In Ireland she worked with the European Network Against Racism where she wrote racial and discrimination policy to be submitted to the United Nation’s Committee Against Racial Discrimination. Prior to working in Ireland, Sierra worked at Middlebury Interactive Languages’ Spanish Language Immersion Academy where she implemented programming  to enrich students’ knowledge of Hispanic language and cultures.

Sierra received her undergraduate degree from Colorado College in Southwest Studies where she examined environmental conflicts, particularly nuclear energy issues, affecting indigenous communities of the American Southwest. She studied abroad in Ecuador, where she implemented a joint project with local indigenous communities pertaining to environmental justice and indigenous rights. Sierra is most proud of her experience in grassroots community organizing where she created and initiated projects such as a Veteran’s Homeless Day Center in Colorado Springs, CO, and a Refugee Mentoring Initiative in Providence, Rhode Island. She speaks fluent Spanish and intermediate French.
