AREAS OF INTEREST: Arts and Youth – Maroua strives to help disadvantaged youth and improve social programs.

Maroua was inspired to improve the lives of the disadvantaged in her community while volunteering with classmates at a home for the elderly. While studying at the university she volunteered with Dar Lekbira, an NGO that prioritizes child welfare and community development. Maroua served as director of the Dar Lekbira organization’s Child Residential Care Center and is currently a board member and head of its Arts and Culture Section.

Maroua is working on her PhD research in creative arts therapies as a means of helping street children through the social reintegration process, and hopes that it will help reshape the current rehabilitation programs offered by social workers and educators.
