Marie Thérèse Royce, Member, Meridian Board of Trustees

Marie Thérèse Royce, Senior Director International Affairs for the Public Affairs team of Alcatel-Lucent, is based in Washington, DC. Royce is involved in the development of international trade and business initiatives in emerging markets.

Marie is an appointed member of the Department of State’s Advisory Committee on International Communications and Information Policy (ACICIP), advising the U.S. Ambassador-Coordinator. Royce represented the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) at the US-Colombia information, communications and technology bi-lateral in Bogota. She is an active participant in the US-India working group for the TIA. Ms. Royce represented the business community at the US Embassy Economic officer’s conference in Puerto Rico. Her speech was on “Telecommunications & Economic Development as Part of US Foreign Policy.” She was a corporate delegate to Haiti for the US Chamber of Commerce. Ms. Royce was an invited speaker at the Public Roundtable on Haiti at the US Department of State and her remarks were in Communications Daily. Royce spoke at the US Embassy Economic Officers Conference in Johannesburg, Africa as a panel speaker on the subject of subsea cable and mobile money. Marie recently spoke at the Inter-American Development Bank Broadband Conference. Her recent remarks at the World Bank Athgo Forum centered on the use of technology to help alleviate youth unemployment. “Transforming the Leadership Pipeline to Advance Gender Equality and Sustainability” was the subject of Marie’s speech at the United Nation’s Women’s Empowerment Principles (UNWEP) Summit.

Prior to joining Lucent Technologies, she served as a full-time faculty member (Visiting Executive) at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. She was recognized as Distinguished Alumna for the College of Business and also the “Legend of International Business & Marketing.” In March 2013, Marie was presented with the American Women of International Understanding (AWIU) “Internationalism Award” at the Press Club in Washington, DC.

Royce has held senior management positions at Marriott International, Choice Hotels International, and The Procter & Gamble Company. In 1996, she received her Master’s in International Business Administration (MBA) from Georgetown University, where she was recognized “top five” in her class – Beta Gamma Sigma. As a member of the Board of Trustees of Meridian International she served as Ball Co-Chair, and co-founded the Council on Women’s Leadership. Marie serves as a Board member of Alliance Francaise de Washington. As an alumna of The American Council of Young Political Leaders, she served as Board Secretary. Marie is the co-owner of www.GenderStrategy.com. She and her husband Ed Royce are long-time residents of Fullerton, California.
