IVLP Impact Award Project: Empowerment to Fishers

The project equipped 150 artisanal fishers with knowledge about the adoption of responsible fishing practices, by holding three trainings. To raise awareness against Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing practices, Kusi also organized community sensitization events with drama and cultural performances to help promote the cause. Anti-IUU posters on topics like chemical fishing, light fishing, and unauthorized fishing nets were also created and shared on social media platforms to generate public and political support against IUU.

"It is my utmost wish that the project will be continued and expanded to increase the understanding of my fellow fishers in other fishing communities to deeply understand the impacts of IUU fishing.” - Project Participant

IVLP Exchange Experience

Kusi was a participant in the IVLP Project Combatting Illegal Fishing in Lakes and Coasts of Africa, organized by the U.S. Department of State and American Councils for International Education.

Kusi's exchange experience led to the development of his IVLP Impact Award Project: "IVLP increased my understanding on the critical role resource users play in the successful implementation of fisheries management policies."
