2022 IVLP Impact Award Project: Girls in Space and AviationIsrael

headshot hana galitskyHana Galitsky Ovroutski is passionate about science education. She is the director of Education and Guidance Division at Madatech-Israel National Museum of Science, Technology and Space. She believes in strengthening and promoting women and girls in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics fields. Hana has a master's of science degree in Science Teaching and a diploma in Educational Assessment and Measurement from the Weizmann Institute of Science. She also holds a bachelor's degree in Biology and a teaching certificate from the Hebrew University. Hana has 13 years of experience in formal education. Today among her responsibilities in the Education Division of the Museum is pedagogical responsibility for the development of content and programs in the field of science, technology and space for the education system. 

IVLP Impact Award Project: Girls in Space and Aviation

The project goal was to connect the younger generation to the space and aviation industry, in order to increase the number of girls studying STEM fields. The project was held at Madatech the National Museum of Science Technology and Space in Haifa, Israel. 127 girls, aged 12-16, were invited to a special activity at the museum. The project created a model and inspired girls to pursue science and aviation. The project brought girls together from diverse communities to learn about aviation through an interactive museum tour.

The project activities included:

  • A lecture about women in aviation and space
  • Educational Tours at the Birds in Aviation exhibition, Da Vinci exhibition, Aviation Exhibition and Astronomy Exhibition
  • Activities at the "Fab-Lab"- the girls will create a blazar glider with a laser cut and test it in a wind tunnel, they also designed a special logo encouraging girls to learn aerospace
IVLP Exchange Experience

Hana was a participant in the IVLP Project Advancing Women and Girls in STEAM Fields, organized by the U.S. Department of State and the Institute of International Education.
