Fernand Gouveia

Fernand Gouveia joined Meridian International Center as a Program Officer in 2019. He has a varied background that includes experience on nuclear nonproliferation and arms control, and international scientific cooperation at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, the Idaho National Laboratory and the U.S. Department of Energy. His more recent work includes promoting US-UK scientific collaboration as Senior Science Officer at the British Embassy in Washington DC. As an advocate for science and social innovation, he also managed a women-in-STEM initiative at the Smithsonian Institution. Beyond his day job, Fernand is actively involved with digital media development and leading an online platform he founded to promote collaboration among citizen scientists. Fernand is widely traveled and is a native speaker of Portuguese and conversant in Russian. He earned a bachelor's degree in Political Science at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a master's degree in International Policy Studies at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies.
