Altynai Baibachaeva

Fellow, GlobalConnect Programs @ Meridian

Altynai Baibachaeva currently serves as a GlobalConnect Programs Fellow. She first joined the GlobalConnect team as the Central Asia Media Exchange (CAMEX) intern in May 2020. In this role, she supported virtual exchange programs for media specialists from Central Asia and helped with the implementation of a Foreign Press Center (FPC) program on the 2020 U.S. Elections.

Altynai is currently pursuing a master’s degree in International Development Studies at The George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs. Originally from Kyrgyzstan, she earned a bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Bentley University in Massachusetts. Before graduate school, she was working as an Information Program Coordinator at the Soros-Foundation Kyrgyzstan (also known as Open Society Foundation), which worked towards three main initiatives: providing open access to education resources,  popularization of IT skills for youth economic advancement, and building engagement between citizens and the government by developing Civic tech tools. She was also responsible for the program's budget allocation, logistics, and organization of grant contests. Altynai previously interned with the Embassy of Kyrgyz Republic in Washington, DC, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham), both in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. She is eager to learn and contribute to Meridian's work and continue her development as a development practitioner. She can speak Russian, Kyrgyz, English, and some Turkish.
