Few athletes can claim as long, decorated, and popular a career as Ichiro Suzuki. Currently in his twenty-sixth year in professional baseball, the MLB star played for Kobe’s Orix BlueWave before joining the Seattle Mariners, where he spent twelve years, in 2001. Unlike Nomo, Ichiro was signed for his hitting prowess rather than his pitching ability. Fans created the “Ichimeter” to keep track of his record-breaking hits, and Seattle’s Safeco Field began selling “Ichiroll” sushi.
