Following his retirement as a professional player, Wally Yonamine stayed in Japan to coach and manage clubs, including the Chunichi Dragons, which he led to its first Central League victory in twenty years. In 1994, Yonamine became the first American to be inducted into the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame for his contributions to the sport as a player, coach, and manager.
