A gifted athlete, Wally Yonamine played professional football and baseball in the United States before signing with the Yomiuri Giants at the recommendation of Lefty O’Doul. During his twelve years on the team, the Hawaiian native won several awards, as well as the respect of Japanese fans. Yonamine revolutionized Japanese baseball with his American-style aggressive base running.
