On May 2, 2013, Meridian International Center signed a 5-year Memorandum of Intent with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations to promote mutual understanding between the U.S. and India. The shared objective in signing this Memorandum is to establish a formal framework to promote future U.S.-Indian artistic exchanges and partnerships by bringing together all sectors.

Meridian and ICCR will work together to develop and implement cultural programs that include, but not limited to, the visual and performing arts, as well as related forums, lectures, and training courses in the U.S. and India. Both organizations recognize that cultural exchanges are a key component in U.S.-Indian relations, and that collaboration between both partners will play an important role in advancing our respective government’s foreign policy goals.

Cultural diplomacy is central to Meridian’s mission, and its India Initiative, which facilitates stronger bilateral ties between the United States and India through the exchange of ideas, people, and culture. With an on-the-ground presence in one of the world’s fastest growing democracies, Meridian and its partners in this Initiative address the need for ongoing dialogue and collaboration between our two countries on shared challenges and opportunities. This Memorandum serves as an important vehicle that bolsters Meridian’s commitment to bringing all sectors together through culture.
