<p>Project HOPE (Health Opportunities for People Everywhere) was founded in 1958 as an international health care organization and has since served in over 100 countries. On its maiden voyage, SS <em>HOPE</em>—the world’s first peacetime hospital ship—traveled to Indonesia and Vietnam, where its volunteer medical staff treated patients with limited access to health care and health education.</p>
