<p>Between 1877 and 1879, former president Ulysses S. Grant and his family traveled the world. The trips, originally meant to be for leisure following Grant’s eight years as president, ultimately transformed into goodwill tours. During his voyage around Asia in 1879, Grant visited China, Hong Kong, Japan, Macau, Singapore, Thailand, and Burma, where he was invited to a Buddhist temple.</p>
