Information Officer

Position Title: Information Officer
Salary Range: Commensurate with experience
Location: Washington, D.C.
Reports To: Senior Vice President, Professional Exchanges Division

Purpose and Description

The Information Officer is responsible for serving as the Professional Exchanges Division staff’s main contact for technological and communication needs, working as the Division’s internal and external liaison on technology issues and responding on short notice to special requests.  An additional responsibility is to represent the Division on Meridian’s Communications team to help facilitate a coordinated communications policy.  The Officer reports to the Senior Vice President for Professional Exchanges.

Essential Functions

Technology & Information Systems (75%)

  • Serves as internal and external liaison on technology issues; shares insights, updates and technology best practices with staff; represents PED during IT Steering Committee and Salesforce meetings
  • Works closely with the Department of State, software developers, and Global Ties U.S. on the development of IVRC/ORDIV and Community Point to ensure that PED’s needs are met
  • Collaborates with divisional and cross-divisional colleagues to develop policies and procedures for project data management, retention, and storage, including GDPR and participant media consent compliance
  • Monitors Meridian’s information technology updates, identifies potential effects on PED workflow and helps staff adapt to new processes and protocols
  • Leads, in cooperation with Technology Co-Facilitators, a Technology Working Group to help improve PED’s processes and workflow with technology tools
  • Explores new ways to maximize PED’s use of Office 365, SharePoint and Salesforce
  • Develops with the Resources Development Officer procedures for updating electronic resources, including IVRC/ORDIV, Salesforce, PED Exchange Sharepoint Site and PED Resource Database
  • Manages PED’s historical program data through Salesforce, SharePoint and archive systems
  • Develops and administers annual budget for information technology needs
  • Maintains, acquires, and manages inventory of equipment such as laptops, projectors, cameras, and tablets
  • Collaborates with the Training and Professional Development facilitators to assess and meet staff technology training needs

Communications (25%)

  • Serves as the primary point of contact for communications outreach for PED’s work and special IVLP projects
  • Represents PED on Meridian’s Communications Team
  • Leads, in cooperation with VP for External Affairs, a Communications Team of Communications and Social Media Facilitators to create and promote content for social media and publications
  • Promotes a robust inclusion of PED’s projects on Meridian’s blog, website, annual reports, electronic publications and other social media platforms
  • Edits and updates website entries about IVLP programs and projects
  • Ensures compliance with Department of State communication guidelines for IVLP participants

Minimum Qualifications

Experience/Education

  • Undergraduate degree in International Relations, Global Studies, or related fields; or any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience with the International Visitor Leadership Program
  • Knowledge of and experience with IT tools and platforms such as SharePoint and Office 365
  • Familiarity with computer and data management systems; IVRC/ORDIV and Salesforce preferred
  • Understanding of Meridian’s broader objectives, programs and divisions
  • Superior oral and written communication skills
  • Tact, patience and flexibility in working with colleagues

This position is classified FLSA non-exempt
