House/Banquet Manager

Salary Range: Commensurate with experience

Reports To: Facilities Director

Purpose and Description

Under the supervision of the Facilities Director, the House/Banquet Manager will have direct responsibility for supporting the meeting and event activities of Meridian International Center with an emphasis on hospitality, banquet management, and service excellence.

Essential Functions

  • Represent Meridian as the public-facing hospitality lead in overseeing the setup of meetings or programs that require food or beverage service; programs include but are not limited to, corporate breakfast programs, diplomatic trainings, program lunches, and receptions
  • Serve as the primary liaison for all hospitality and event-related activities to the Events Department, working closely to set priorities and activity deadlines with the Director of Events and Events Coordinator to ensure banquet and hospitality-related functions in support of meetings, programs, and events are handled with consistency, efficiency, and care
  • Manage quality control over the aesthetics and setup of banquet services with an emphasis on service excellence and ensuring a positive visitor experience, to include management and assignment of tasks to onsite staff supporting operational activities, as required
  • Manage inventory and upkeep of banquet-related equipment including but not limited to, beverages, china, glassware, flatware, linens, and support equipment; plans and sets budget to manage banquet requirements, performing frequent inventory control and audit of needed supplies
  • Demonstrate a strong working knowledge of Meridian’s floor plans, house policies and procedures, and is able to effectively communicate these details to fellow M&O team members and housekeeping staff
  • Actively oversee banquet services at assigned Meridian activities, with flexibility required based on event schedule for mornings, evening work and occasional weekends during peak seasons
  • Work closely with the Maintenance & Operations Team to review room setups to ensure that meeting space is arranged as requested in event requisition documents; manages M&O support staff assigned to support banquet functions
  • Coordinate administrative functions to support the review, procurement, and ordering of supplies for banquet needs, including evaluating supplier contracts and processing check requests
  • Work collaboratively with M&O and Events Department to suggest and navigate scheduling needs to support activities requiring banquet or hospitality services

Minimum Qualifications

Experience/Education

  • 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in a position related to catering, hotel banquet management, or hospitality with an emphasis on customer service in a high-level or luxury environment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must be organized and self-motivated to set personal working deadlines and schedule tasks based around anticipated activities with the ability to pivot to address unplanned activities or last-minute requests of leadership and visitors
  • Strong attention to detail with an emphasis on functionality and aesthetics, to support the mission of Meridian International Center, its stakeholders, and event clients
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, with competency using computers to create reports, communicate internally and externally, and implement calendar programs
  • Knowledge of international protocol is a plus but not required

Physical Effort and Dexterity

  • Must be able to navigate stairs and lift boxes/items up to 20 pounds.

Visual Acuity, Hearing, and Speaking

  • Excellent verbal and written command of the English language.

  • Interest in working with an international not-for-profit professional exchange organization
