Business Development / Corporate Engagement Internship

Meridian’s Development Team is responsible for maintaining relationships with Meridian’s donors and corporate partners, cultivating development opportunities, fundraising, and producing cultural diplomacy programs.  The Corporate Engagement Intern will help directly support the Meridian Corporate Council, a council of over 40 major corporations that are leaders in corporate social responsibility and international initiatives who support Meridian, as well as general private sector engagement efforts for the organization at large. The Corporate Engagement Intern responsibilities will vary depending on the schedule of events. The Intern can expect to gain experience in donor relations, corporate research, business development, event management, fundraising, non-profit management, social media promotion, audience management, as well as database management. Below is an overview of general intern duties:

Responsibilities/Duties:

Research

  • Conduct research on corporate prospects to assist with identifying funding sources;
  • Research the current global interests/involvement of specific corporations to help assist in event matching;
  • Research special projects and organize research information systematically;
  • Provide administrative support to development staff as needed.

Events and Audience Management

  • Assist in event planning and organizing for Corporate Council programs;
  • Support Corporate Relations staff with pre- and post-event database management;
  • Represent Meridian at various corporate-focused programs
  • Assist in setup, staffing, and breakdown of events as needed.

Communications

  • Generate content and writing program write ups for the Meridian website
  • Support Social media outreach on platforms such as Instagram, Twitter and Facebook

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Working toward a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, or a recent graduate
  • Must be highly organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated and able to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational and writing skills
  • Ability to efficiently manage time and prioritize between short term and long-term projects
  • Familiarity and comfort with online research and marketing tools
  • Interest in global issues, international affairs, and private sector engagement / business development
  • Computer proficiency in Windows based applications including Microsoft Word and Excel is mandatory; knowledge of database management applications, such as Salesforce, is preferred
  • Must show tact and discretion due to our constant engagement with high-level government, diplomatic, and business officials
  • Preferred availability for full-day fundraising event on October 25

Preference will be given to candidates with 20-25 hrs/week availability through October 25. Internship is unpaid, but Corporate Engagement Intern will receive daily travel/meal stipend. Start and end dates are negotiable, but ideally April 15 through November 22.
