Summary of Position

The Video Production Associate helps drive the visual storytelling of Meridian’s work across digital and live event platforms. A core responsibility of this job is creating engaging, visually arresting and on-brand videos with viral potential to share on social media, mobile, hybrid/virtual conferences and live events. This is a position within a fast-paced environment that includes writing short scripts and conceptualizing storyboards, filming original content – interviews, events and b-roll – editing video and creating engaging motion graphics or animations to illustrate and explain Meridian’s mission and programs to a diverse range of international and domestic audiences. The Video Production Associate role will assist the advancement of long-term priorities of the Communications Department and strategic goals of the organization. This position is located in Washington, D.C., and residency in D.C., MD, or VA is required.

Position Responsibilities

  • Create video and other mixed-media content productions for all brand touchpoints: website and social media assets, virtual and live events, organic and paid social ads, etc.
  • Produce digital-first video content using styles and techniques to optimize social media engagement, as part of integrated marketing strategies.
  • Make technical and creative decisions regarding locations, appropriate lighting, shooting angles, placement and type of microphones, other audio needs, and other production issues.
  • Pitch ideas for compelling videos that engage audiences around the world.
  • Work with a wide range and quality of audio, video and static imagery (photography to short video clips) to turn branded content into a volume of shareable videos built for individual digital/social platforms and audiences.
  • Exercise editorial judgment for selecting newsworthy or historical footage with an eye toward amplifying Meridian’s mission and brand messaging.
  • Develop and communicate visual storytelling concepts by creating mood boards, sketches, presentation decks, style guides, and storyboards.
  • Create and update branded assets using both existing templates and developing new designs for lower thirds, social media, website embeds, advertisements and other marketing assets.
  • Maintain digital archives and library of physical files for reference and institutional memory.
  • Comply with internal and data privacy standards for media and metadata tagging.
  • Coordinate with the Digital Marketing Manager in the development of marketing campaigns to promote Meridian’s brand, programs and network engagement opportunities.
  • Engage with a spectrum of internal staff and external partners, many of whom are not fluent in video, and walk them through the production process and project expectations.
  • Work with outside contractors to ensure all aspects of a production, logistics and execution are seamless.
  • Responsible for completing all organizational administrative responsibilities in a timely manner and meeting all organizational administrative deadlines.


  • 2-4 years of professional work experience in Video Production, Videography, Visual Communications, Multimedia Journalism or other related fields, with an emphasis on video production for a media outlet, creative agency, think tank or international nonprofit.
  • Proven ability to creatively film, capture, curate and edit video and other multimedia content for strategic distribution across digital and event platforms.
  • Experience using creative, analytical and strategic skills in communications, content production and marketing, with ability to translate data into action plans to elevate audience engagement.
  • Understanding of branding, marketing and consumer behavior, with the ability to apply that knowledge to video production work.
  • Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.

Technical Requirements:

  • Expertise in Adobe Premiere Pro, along with Adobe After Effects, Audition, Illustrator and Photoshop; InDesign, Bridge and other applications are a plus.
  • Solid creative portfolio including dynamic and shareable videos, creative multimedia assets among other compelling productions that tell visual stories
  • Experience with professional-grade videography and DSLR photography (Canon family technology is preferred) and livestreaming to a variety of platforms including YouTube
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams and Edge
  • Experience managing YouTube and Zoom-based productions
  • Familiarity WordPress, SquareSpace, HTML coding, CMS systems and other relevant web-based platforms; as well as Canva, Salesforce and Pardot 

 Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Expert knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Superior production and visual content creation skills, with ability to capture and edit. multimedia content for audiences across digital and social media platforms.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills for preparing scripts, and detail-oriented proofreader (AP style knowledge is preferred).
  • Photography, photo editing and general graphic design skills is a plus.
  • Self-starter and team-oriented, having the ability to work independently with overall strategic direction and collaborate with teammates to service rapid turnaround times, capture trending moments, deliver and receive feedback, all while keeping a clear, enthusiastic and proactive attitude towards content creation.
  • Strong planning and project management skills, with ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously and deliver fast turnaround on deadline.
  • Broad understanding of foreign and domestic policy issues driving today's world and news; understanding of the Washington influencer and social landscape.
  • Strong inter-cultural communication skills; maturity, cultural sensitivity, and tact suitable for working with individuals from around the world
