 Summary of Position:

Under the supervision of the Director, Facilities, this role serves as a key player and lead in the set-up, maintenance, breakdown, logistics, and security of events, and as the maintenance lead for weekend events. This position is considered essential and may be required to work during emergency closings.

This position is located in Washington D.C. and Meridian requires MD, DC, or VA residence for all employees. Effective January 4, 2022, all Meridian staff are required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19, unless a reasonable medical or religious accommodation is approved.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Event support duties, including but not limited to table/equipment set up and breakdown, banquet and housekeeping needs, and coordination/communications with relevant staff
  • Quality control, including reviewing event setups for accuracy
  • Some maintenance and janitorial support duties, including but not limited to vacuuming / mopping, trash removal, dusting, re-stocking of products and minor household repairs
  • General safety/security duties, including but not limited to securing of exterior doors, gates, windows, and critical offices; may provide some limited event security and reception services as needed
  • Dependable and personable communications; reporting any/all safety and maintenance issues to relevant staff

Education/Experience:

  • 1-3 years experience
  • Direct experience in non-profits, event centers, and/or historic buildings a plus

Technical Requirements:

  • Must have the ability to access and use an employer provided smartphone, iPad, and electronic timekeeping system
  • Experience with audio/visual equipment is highly desirable

  • Superior attention to detail with dedication to providing the best service possible
  • Excellent verbal, written, and spoken communication skills
  • Hands-on supportive team member with an ability to support a variety of maintenance and event related activities
  • Strong inter-cultural communication skills; maturity, cultural sensitivity, and tact suitable for working with individuals from around the world
  • Ability to lift and move up to 75 pounds of boxes and equipment for various event needs.
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and appearance at all times
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned

Physical Effort and Dexterity:

Must be able to climb stairs, carry heavy items and other equipment (up to 75 lbs.).

Scheduling and Environment:

  • 2nd shift is Tuesday through Saturday, from 2:00 to 10:45 pm, and requires a later end time on Saturday for a 40+ hour work week that includes paid overtime
  • 3rd shift is Sunday through Thursdays, from 10:30 pm to 7:15 am; paid overtime may occasionally be required
  • Both shifts allow for flexibility of start and end times provided a consistent schedule is maintained

Visual Acuity, Hearing, and Speaking:

Excellent verbal and written proficiency in English required; Spanish fluency and/or proficiency a plus.
