Effective Disaster Management and Emergency Response Coordination

During the Meals on Wheels event at Catholic Charities, our group had the opportunity to hear from and meet Mayor Carolyn Goodman. They were also recognized by Deacon Tom, President and CEO of Catholic Charities.

This group was a mix of public officials and NGO representatives who work closely together in Afghanistan on disaster mitigation and response. While in the U.S., they met with their counterparts to observe best practices in emergency preparedness and management for a variety of settings, as well as explore multi-stakeholder coordination in various levels of disaster management. They visited Washington, DC; Baltimore, MD; Albany, NY; Las Vegas, NV; and Tampa, FL. Upon returning home, participants plan to promote volunteer-based, private citizen involvement in disaster management/response, similar to our Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) in the U.S.
