In this project, 6 German international visitors traveled from Washington D.C. to New York then to Greensboro, followed by San Diego, and concluded in Austin, Texas. In their time they met with Ms. D’Vera Cohn of Pew to hear about demographic trends in the United States; observed a naturalization ceremony; enjoyed a minor league baseball game in Greensboro; toured the La Jolla County school in San Diego; and met with members of the University of Texas School of Law and learned about their efforts representing those facing deportation, seeking asylum, or extending their stay in the United States through the “T” and “U” visas for victims of trafficking and other crime. Visitors in this project plan to take youth outreach strategies seen in this project back to Germany, and a reporting project for ZEIT, one of Germany’s largest daily newspapers.
