Hongxia Liu is the Associate Vice Chancellor for Government and Community Relations at New York University (NYU) Shanghai. She served as the Associate Vice Chancellor and Chief Operating Officer during the first two academic years of NYU Shanghai from Fall 2013 to Summer 2015. She joined NYU from the Beijing office of Heidrick & Struggles as its Partner-in-Charge, after having previously served as Executive Director of the World Justice Project, Director for Asia-Pacific of the International Development Law Organization, Director of Legal Research at the Law Library of Congress, and Director of the American Bar Association’s Center for the United Nations Development Programme. After receiving a LLB in international affairs from Peking University and a MA in public policy from NYU, she started her career working in the Republic of Georgia in 1995 as a Program Officer for the Academy of Educational Development. She served as President of the Washington Foreign Law Society and is a member of the governing board of the International Law Institute, among other non-profit organizations. For her many contributions, she has been honored with the American Bar Association’s World Order Under Law Award, the Beijing Chaoyang Government’s Phoenix Award, and the Peking University Outstanding Alumna Award.
