Meridian held an installment of the Global Business@Meridian Downtown breakfast series on June 5, 2014 in Manhattan. Hosted by Mr. Patrick Durkin, Managing Director of the Public Policy Group for Barclays and Mr. Shawn PM Golhar, Director for Barclays, the morning program featured His Excellency Eduardo Medina-Mora, Ambassador of Mexico to the United States. Members of Meridian’s Corporate Council, including The Coca-Cola Company, Hess Corporation, and IBM, among others, engaged in the intimate discussion with Ambassador Medina-Mora, as well as his colleague, Dr. Antonio Ortiz-Mena, Head of Section for Economic Affairs, and Ambassador Sandra Fuentes-Berain, Consul General of Mexico in New York.

Meridian’s President and CEO, Ambassador Stuart Holliday, chaired the off-the-record conversation, which included key themes such as the 20th anniversary of NAFTA and its effect on shared production of goods and intra-regional investment within Mexico; opportunities and challenges for direct foreign investment within the finance, technology telecommunications and energy sectors; the value of collaborative efforts between the U.S. and Mexico on educational initiatives and student exchanges; immigration and migration projections; and the current status of the energy reform surrounding oil privatization.
