Riley Sever, a retired Foreign Service Officer (FSO), joined Meridian in late 2009. Before coming to Meridian, he served for many years with the U.S. Information Agency and the State Department in the public diplomacy arena, where he worked with educational and cultural exchange programs, among other duties. As an FSO, he was involved with every aspect of the International Visitor Leadership Program from selecting, nominating and briefing international visitors (IVs) to administering Embassy IV Selection Committees. Some of his assignments include: Public Affairs Officer, Durban, South Africa; Acting Public Affairs Officer, Harare, Zimbabwe; Cultural Affairs Officer, Jakarta, Indonesia; Career Counselor for Entry Level FSOs; Program Officer for American Society and Values Division of the International Information Program Office; Information Officer, Athens, Greece; Cultural Coordinator for the East Asia and Pacific Area; and Assistant Cultural Affairs Officer in Jakarta, Indonesia, Brasilia, Brazil and Sao Paulo, Brazil. The recipient of numerous meritorious honor awards, Riley has conversational knowledge of Indonesian and Portuguese. He obtained a B.A. in History and an M.S. in American History from Florida State University.
