International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) Print E-mail
America is best understood by people who visit and form their own impressions. For almost 50 years the IVLP program has provided leaders from all over the world the opportunity to form such impressions and build lasting relationships. Each individual experience serves the participant well and enhances our relationship with them.

The IVLP promotes mutual understanding through carefully designed visits that address both the visitors’ professional interests and the foreign policy goals of the U.S. Department of State and United States embassies abroad.

Projects focus on current issues involving the U.S. and the visitor’s own country, ranging from US foreign and security policy to education and health care.

Visitors spend up to three weeks in various U.S. communities, meeting with experts in their fields of interest from both the public and private sectors, giving presentations to American audiences, attending cultural events, all while enjoying the hospitality of American homes.

Through the IVLP, participants gain deeper insights into the democracy, society, and culture of the United States, and they develop appreciation for the diversity of American perspectives and ideas.
