This year’s Arab Spring was the catalyst for a project called Young Leaders RISE: Renew, Inspire, Serve and Empower. Designed for young Arab political leaders, non-governmental organizers, community activists, academics, and news media representatives, the participants explored strategies for increasing political participation and coalition-building. This included meetings and workshops on best practices in strategic planning, leadership development, social media, lobbying, public outreach, and the use of volunteer networks. Special emphasis was also placed on providing opportunities to observe and discuss the engagement of young Americans in the political process.
