Meridian International Center is pleased to note the recent election of Portia Simpson Miller as Prime Minister of Jamaica. After visiting Meridian International Center in 1981, Ms. Miller went on to develop an impressive career in Jamaican politics, first as Minister of Labor, Social Security, and Sports from 1995 to 2000, then as Minister of Local Government and Sport from 2000 to 2006, and as Jamaica’s first female Prime Minister in 2006. From 2007 to the present, she has served as leader of Jamaica’s Opposition Party, the People’s National Party (PNP).

Prime Minister Miller is one among hundreds of esteemed alumni who have worked with Meridian over the past 51 years, before returning to leadership positions in their home country. We are proud to have PM Miller as another global leader connected by their experience at Meridian International Center.
