On Tuesday, January 15, 2013 Meridian successfully hosted a “speed convening” session with a multi-regional delegation of civic leaders as part of the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) in collaboration with the U.S. State Department. The interactive event included a diverse group of participants working with youth, from countries ranging from El Salvador to Madagascar and Tonga.
With the goal of exploring models and programs in the U.S. that promote civic awareness and youth leadership, ten minute “speed convening” sessions were organized around four major topics: Funding and Partnerships; Recruiting Talent and New Ideas; Engaging Networks & Mobilizing Volunteers; and Marketing and Messaging.
Speakers included John Hecklinger, Chief Program Officer of Global Giving; Abby Flottemesch, Chief Development & Engagement Officer of Atlas Service Corps; AnnMaura Connolly, Chief Strategy Officer and Executive Vice President of CityYear and President of Voices for National Service; Shana Glickfield, Founding Partner of Beekeeper Group; and Brenda Chamberlain, Executive Director at Horton’s Kids.
After four "rounds" of speed convening, the group was able to engage with the speakers one-on-one and in more depth over a leisurely lunch —minus the stopwatch.
