External Affairs Internship – Spring 2018

Meridian’s External Affairs office is responsible for maintaining relationships with Meridian’s external audiences, organizational communications, and raising funds for Meridian's global leadership activities, cultural diplomacy programs, and for the maintenance and renovations of Meridian’s historic buildings.  These goals are achieved through annual fundraising efforts, memberships in Meridian Councils, fundraising events, and public forums.  Support comes from individual donors, corporations, and foundations. External Affairs Intern responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Responsibilities/Duties:

Research

  • Conduct research on foundations, corporations, and individual prospects to assist with identifying funding sources;
  • Research the current global interests/involvement of specific foundations and corporations to help assist in event matching;
  • Research special projects and organize research information systematically;
  • Assist in filing online and paper files;
  • Provide administrative support to external affairs staff as needed.

Data Management

  • Code event invitees and attendees and other relevant information in Meridian’s relationship management database, Salesforce
  • Update constituent and contributor information in Salesforce

Events

  • Assist in event planning and organizing for Meridian Ball and Summit, forums, and council programs;
  • Support External Affairs staff with pre- and post-event database management;
  • Help print, mail, and email invitations to Meridian hosted events;
  • Assist in setup, staffing, and breakdown of events as needed.

Communications

  • Assist in creating and sending content using Meridian’s digital marketing platform, MyEmma, and other cloud based tools
  • Assist in generating content and writing program write ups for the website and blog posts for the Meridian blog, The LEAD;
  • Support Social media outreach on platforms such as Instagram, Twitter and Facebook
  • Provide administrative support to Communications staff as needed.

Skills/qualifications:

  • Working toward a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, or a recent graduate
  • Familiarity and comfort with online research and marketing tools
  • Interest in global issues and international affairs
  • Strong organizational and writing skills
  • Ability to multi-task and collaborate effectively with a team
  • Ability to efficiently manage time between short term and long term projects
  • Must be highly organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated and able to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • Computer proficiency in Windows based applications including Microsoft Word and Excel is mandatory; knowledge of database applications such as Salesforce is preferred
  • Must show tact and discretion
