AP Accountant, Part-time

Salary Range: $28-$32 per hour commensurate with experience
Location: Washington, D.C.
Reports To: Director, Finance & Accounting

Purpose and Description

Meridian International Center is seeking an experienced, part-time- AP accountant to perform accounting and clerical tasks related to the efficient maintenance and processing of accounts payable transactions.

The A/P accountant will work collaboratively with program staff to ensure data entered in the accounting system will provide for accurate expenditure recording and reporting and ensure accurate and timely payments

Essential Functions

  • Review payment requests (Checks, Wires/ACH and Prepaid Card) and vouchers for mathematical and coding accuracy
  • Review payment requests for proper supporting documentations
  • Prepare and process electronic transfers and payments
  • Prepare and perform payment runs
  • Reconcile accounts payable transaction & accounts payable aging reports
  • Reconcile accounts payable reports with the general ledger as needed
  • Assist with month end closing
  • Assist with document management, filing, storage and retention
  • Assis with preparation of 1099s
  • Support the review and verification of invoices and payment requests as needed
  • Support audit requests as needed

Other duties and special projects as assigned

Minimum Qualifications


  • Associate’s Degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • One year of experience of accounting/bookkeeping experience, preferably in a non-profit, association, or government agency
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics SL desired
  • Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong organizational skills essential
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast paced environment
  • Good knowledge of business office practices, procedures, and documents
  • Knowledge of basic Excel and Word skills
  • Knowledge of operating practices; policies and procedures of an accounting department; ability to understand and interpret pertinent policies and procedures clearly and accurately
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers including both finance and non-finance staff
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Ability to organize documents both in hard and electronic copies in a logical manner
  • Ability to establish, maintain, and prepare records and reports
